Filing a Claim Protest

Yesterday, I received the form from the Illinois Department of Employment Security, telling me that my discharged employee was applying for benefits. As a general rule, I would not file a protest. In fact, I have never done this before. Why? Well, frankly there isn't enough at stake to warrant my time. All employees are part-time.

This particular employee though, worked the most hours. She also made the most money and received bonus on the drop-off. I paid her at a higher level, because I believed I was receiving a higher level of trust and security from her.

With her lies and deceit still like a splinter in my side, I have filed the Protest to Claim. Frankly, I may have been frustrated with her absences of late and had I known, should have fired her then. This would have been an open and shut case. But, I still believed in the recesses of my mind and heart that all would be good in the end.

I am Protesting the Claim as Discharged for Misconduct.

This selection requires me to send along a detailed account of all events. Which I completed last night, at about 9pm. Then I faxed the Protest to the appropriate office. You would think that I would feel good about this. But I don't.

My hope is that the employee learns a valuable lesson about honesty. The value of honesty is priceless. Although, at her age, 65, it is very possibly too late.
