Almost Turkey Day!
I'm so nervous! Not about the turkey and stuffing, but about the events of Thursday Morning.
As usual, my whole family will be getting up early on Turkey Day, to head to Elmhurst, IL. We will be participating in the Annual Turkey Trot.
This year is the 24th Annual Dan Gibbons Turkey Trot. I believe last year, over 6000 runners/walkers were entered. This great cause collected something like $120,000 to help feed those in need. All runners receive the annual t-shirt and are eligible for door prizes. I have never won anything, but I don't care - it's the cause that brings us back.
The only difference this year, is that I am not just giving my money and my time for others. I'm selfishly looking to physically move myself. In the past, I have walked more then run this event. This year I want to run. I don't know if I can, but I am going to try my hardest.
In prior years I have walked this event in about 57 minutes - so sad. My personal goal this year was to complete the trot in 45 minutes or less. I don't think I am pushing myself here, it wouldn't take much increase in speed to get this done. It is basically a faster walk. I am negotiating this pace, due to the fact that I have never mastered 3.1 miles in my 1/2 hour workout.
Today, on the treadmill, I decided to see how long it would take me to hit 3.1 miles. I completed about 3/4 of mile when my treadmill "err"d. I'm guessing I was at about 8 minutes. I know I had passed the .75 mark, but unsure how much. I restarted another run and it took 30 minutes to get to the 2.35 miles I needed to add to the first run to equal the 3.1 miles.
This said, I will not let myself go longer then 39 minutes.
To make matters worse, the weather people are calling for snow on Thursday. Although, they do say, they don't expect more then an inch.
Do you get the feeling I'm being challenged?

You go girl! We have a Turkey Trot down here as well, it's nice to get out and exercise before the big meal!
Stay warm, dear, because this week has been 70's and now tomorrow is gonna be snow. Wait 5 minutes, right? I'll be thinking about you when I am in my warm house getting ready to travel to family's house to eat.
