Class Ranks

I received first semester report cards for the 3 kids in high school. And each child was given a specific class rank, based on their grades throughout their high school careers to date.

I'm not sure why the school prints this info. I do not take much stock in it, now that my baby is in high school. The ranks just seem off, so to speak.

My DS1 is ranked #20 and has a GPA of 3.63889

My DD3 is ranked #1 with a GPA of 4.0000

Then we have my DS2 who is lazy and who's grades show he is lazy. He has been in lock-down since December. Yes, I know, I am a MEAN mom. But when I see grades below B's and then when I look at EDLINE and see you have all A's on quizzes and tests, but F's and 0's on all homework assignments - I will correct this by force. Lazy is not an option.

Anyway, DS2 is ranked #16 with a GPA of 2.6000.

What is wrong with this picture. All classes are well over 200 students. Does this mean that DS2's class is that far behind the upper classmen? Evidently, this year is being lost in the school system. Rank means nothing here - that GPA sucks and DS2 will remain in lockdown until all grades are B or above.

Before I hear that "not everyone" can do that, let me tell you - this boy is smart. He has a working brain. Since I have the liberty of seeing the entire grade book from home - I know it isn't his brain keeping him back - it is laziness. Zero's on homework are unacceptable - I don't care if you get a 100% on tests. As the GPA shows, it does matter that you do your homework and turn it in.

Lockdown was and is hard. Especially over the Christmas break, but I stuck to my rules - amazingly. He will not be free to roam until all grades are B or above.

I've had his friends and their parents come to tell me how hard I am being on him and that they miss him. TOUGH! They have nothing to lose. He is my baby and he will be the best that he can be - if I have to pull it out of him.
