Shopping Day!
On the coldest day of the year, I went shopping. I didn't use cash though. Nor did I charge it. I used gift cards that I received for Christmas. SCORE!
My first stop was to Bed, Bath & Beyond. - $74.38
Although, I did spend quite a bit of time browsing the clearance I was actually on a mission. My task here was to purchase cloth napkins for everyday use and eliminate our paper napkins in my home. We go through a ton of these - I can only guess how many trees we waste.
I found the napkins on clearance for 99¢ each, about 1/2 price. I bought 21 of them. I wasn't sure how many to get. I do laundry everyday and think I can keep us in clean napkins by this. I do suspect, I will need more at some point. But this is a start. I should be able to save a tree or two. :-)
I also got 8 place mats to match my 3 different types of napkins (7 of each). These were also 99¢ each. Plus a new napkin holder to accommodate the new napkins for $12.99 - not a bargain at all.
I stumbled upon my favorite dry Navy Bean Soup Mix while I was there and bought 2 packages for $3.99 each. And bought a set of 3 Air Bake Cookie Sheets I have been wanting for $19.99. Both of these were not planned - totally impulse. Of course they will not be considered a waste.
Next stop - Bath & Body - $33.33
My last stop was Target - $21.24I received an email, no I didn't buy the $49.95 flip-flops (did look for them though), for their Anti-Bacterial Soaps. They are on sale for 5 for $15 ($3 each). My stock cabinet was empty - so good timing.
When I got to the store, I could get 7 for $20 - Cool! That made them each $2.86. Not bad at all. I also needed body cream and they were on sale for $5 each. So I got 2. And I grabbed the new flavor body lotion trial for $1 for my purse - the scent officially comes out in March - it is Enchanted Orchid. I like it - almost as sweet as me.
No great deals here. No all about me purchases with my Christmas gift cards. I was practical and boring. Using my cards to purchase things I would buy anyway. Because I hate having gift cards in my wallet - use them fast so they don't make money on my money. :-) Just bought 3 boxes of Luna Bars and Deodorant. (I should have left this confession out - I think)
I know my purchases were not what the giver wished for me. I'm sure they wanted me to splurge on something for myself. I hope they understand that these were things I wanted and would buy anyway and they made my life easier with their gift.
