An Investment Worthy of 25 Years
Last year, when I spent $3,024 on myself, I had pangs of guilt. Especially, when you feel like every dollar coming into the house needs to go back out to maintain. Sometimes I think it is my mindset that is the issue and not so much the dollars.
Of course, that is a subject for another day.
That money was spent for a hope and a prayer. I was looking to fix myself. Not only physically, which was apparent, but emotionally and mentally - which I don't know if others know the place I was. My family now sees a huge change in the emotional and mental placement. I wonder if the outside world saw through my facade?
My training time is winding down and I have been forced to take a clear look at the path in front of me. With my eyes wide open, I have made a decision. I will make another payment to the trainer. I'm going to buy 20 more sessions. The only difference is, when I start using those sessions, I will downgrade my sessions to 1 time a week.
I know this is an expensive choice. I do believe that I am worth the money. These dollars were not wasted, they were an investment in me.
I'm not sure if any of you have heard about a thing called a METABOLIC AGE. Dr. Oz has made this concept famous, with his Real Age site and YOU books. When I began this journey back in August, I had a Real Age (Metabolic Age) of 50.
As you all know, I was only 38 at that point.
My condition, my lifestyle, my habits were stealing precious time from my life. Time that I may want in the future, to grow old with my hubby. Or to see my grandbabies born. If I continued on the path I was - I had so much more to loose.
What good would financial progress be for retirement if I died in my 60's?
Today, my investment with the trainer has changed all that. Chronologically, I am now 39, my Metabolic Age is 25.
At a cost of $120.96 per year, I'd say the cost was a bargain.
What would you pay for 25 years of longer, higher quality life?

I finally pulled out our copy of You: Staying Young yesterday and am interested to see how it works for myself and DH. I have a weakened immune system from a fungal infection and am willing to try anything to get back to my former marathon running self. You're an inspiration to stick with it. For now, I must get back to drinking my green tea and eating my flax meal blueberry muffins!
Oh this is interesting!! I'm going to look into it. Thanks for this post!
Wow, I clicked over to read your original post and once again, boy do you and I have a lot in common! Not only are we the same height, but the rapid weight gain you described is the same thing I have been suffering with (for me it wasn't from stopping smoking though, it was from the brilliant idea I had to go on birth control pills for 4 years, for dermatologic reasons...doh!). Anyway, I have a question for you regarding the "not eating enough". Once you started going to the trainer, did you change *what* you were eating, or only increased the amounts of what you were already eating? I'm just curious what got things finally moving for you (besides the difference in exercise). I am happy to report that I just went to see my doctor this morning and she ordered a bunch of blood work (to check hormone levels, etc), and after having just gotten over a nasty bronchial infection, I am ready to start working on getting myself back into shape. I was just curious about the "not eating enough" thing, and what kind of changes you ended up making. Also, you mentioned that 1 hour on the treadmill was not helping...once you started working with the trainer, do you feel that the intensity of your workouts increased? I've really been enjoying following your progress. Keep up the good work and keep us posted! :)
