Concealed Weapons

There is a large debate happening in our area. This debate is stemming from the recent college shootings. There are students, that would like to be allowed to carry their licensed weapons on to campus.

I understand the arguments against this, but I do not fit this mold. I believe that we should have the right to bare arms. Although, I believe it should be responsibly and after training and safety courses, which I believe should be mandatory for all Fire Arm Owners. We have to take a test to get a drivers license to drive a car, but I only took my photo and mailed it with $5 for my Fire Owners Card.

I do believe that my husband and I are both responsible Gun Owners. Each and everyone of our kids has taken the gun safety course at the county. Each and everyone has also spent much time target shooting. We have all guns and equipment in our home. They are not left out. They are not left where a young visitor could get to them. But they are here.

I believe in our right to Bare Arms. I am totally convinced, that had my daughter been in that hall when that gunman entered and was armed, she would have hit the target. Although, with her softer side, she would have went for his leg and scored. Where as my youngest would have made sure in one shot, he didn't come back up.

So, when I hear the debates, I understand these kids are young and that there is risk. But I do believe that these bad guys, might think twice if there was a possibility of retaliation.

Responsible gun users come from responsible families and training.

Talk radio is blasting the idea of licensed concealed weapons. So, I am enjoying when folks from Texas call and speak how they have not had these same issues - because they can carry. And when I think that we are the folks with Hunting Blinds on the family property. I have to chuckle when the Radio host says maybe only kids from towns smaller then 50k in population should be allowed to carry.

Which if you followed this - all goes back to parenting. Good, involved parents can negate the need for all future discussions. This is where our society is falling apart. Not in gun ownership and gun laws, but in the family.

Wake up people, time is your most valuable asset.
