Go Pro

There are so many awesome sites out there. Professional bloggers that have that special knack of staying focused on topic and drawing in the readership. I am not that type of blogger. I am just a person throwing my thoughts out into the world in hopes of connecting with others that have similar views and challenges. As well, as mixing it up with opposing views.

I've come to discover that the free sites for bloggers, that shall remain nameless are fabulous for people like me. Yet, they still lack a lot of pop. I have tried a few times for something of my own. I fail every time. Mostly because I am cheap and quality
web design services cost anywhere from $499 for a basic build to $1399 for a made to suit. It is so hard to go away from the free when it is more personal then business.

Of course, with a service Web site up and running in less than two weeks! I have trouble fixing my site after years. If I wasn't cheap, I would go for the more personalized options, like:

  • a 5-page design and Web site hosting
  • My own designed theme
  • of course with modifications to fit me personally

This way is definitely the way to go for newbies like myself. That aren't cheap and have a goal to be in the big leagues.

Up that price to the high end of $1399 and get that one on one attention to make the site all you and not something to be shared other places.

My guess is, on either option, you best have a plan to get the funds back from your investment.

Everyone Needs Friends!

Whether, in person or on the blogsphere, it warms your heart and makes you a better person by connecting with others. That is why there are so many blogs. You can speak your mind and journal your life, while connecting with others that feel the same or offer up an alternative view to the world in which we all share.

Sometimes, it amazes me how we are all the same, regardless of where we have been.

I've just been nominated by Beachgirl, at Beachgirl's Budget Blog, for this blog award. Thank you so much, Ms. Future Attorney! I'm still amazed by all you do, every time I read your blogs!

Here are the rules of the award:

  1. Put the logo on your blog.
  2. Add a link to the person who awarded it to you.
  3. Nominate at least 5 other blogs.
  4. Add links to these blogs on your blog.- Don't forget this step. This is great free advertising!
  5. Leave a message for your nominee on their blog.

Here are a few of some of the great blogs I frequent out there: (it's so hard to chose!)

A Package In The Mail!!!!

I love packages in the mail. I know I have said it before, but it's just so exciting even when you already know what is inside.
Remember that Blogoversary Contest of Cheryl's I shared about? Well, right after her Cereal Sunday post, Cheryl announced that I was the winner. I wonder if it was just a coincidence that her cereal was relating to issues where more fiber is better and me???? LOL
It's all good - staying regular is important!
I can't wait to grab Larry Winget's book You're Broke Because You Want To Be and head to Dunkin' Donuts for coffee. Plus, shopping at the stock up store, Aldi, is going to be so easy with my new Publix shopping bag. You can never have too many bags!!!
Sending out a big Paw Five to Snoopy!!! I'm for sure he is the reason I won. Dogs are just so smart, he knew the right choice. Hee-Hee!!

Knowledge Building

With my confusion on web hosting, I was excited to find a site that helps clear the clutter. It has a ton of web hosting articles to help those with little knowledge work through the web of confusion.

It seems to be a newer site. There isn't a ton of articles yet. Mostly with comparisons of cheap and low priced web hosting to the more pricier versions.

I think if who ever is building this site, gets some more time in, this will be we a useful site to us newbie people. Of course, I may be the only one that needs help.

Way It Should Be

I was checking out the CFO's post Warning: Your identity as a parent is taking over your life. My husband and I are both guilty of this. By Choice!!

We spent all our non-working time with the kids. Doing whatever. One day we could be building a volcano in the kitchen, the next a 7 course meal fit for only children. The next day, we may have been found trying to master a BMX bike, like the tricksters at the fair or having massive neighborhood hide and seek games.

Looking back and even at the time, we can see that we were neglecting our lives, so to speak, to share in the kids life's. At the time, we were so busy, living the full life, that it didn't matter.

Now, as our family shrinks - at least the ones under our roof, we find ourselves with time. Time, that we need to fill with doing for ourselves and each other. It is a different life. Sometimes even sad.

We are getting better, but it is a daily job to learn to meet with friends again and to be ourselves.

I see the CFO's warning as a valid warning. It is so easy to focus 100% on the kids and lose yourself. Making it a tough transition from that all consuming parenting, to the sideline parent waiting in the wings. So, it is probably best too keep both sides of yourself moving forward at all times.

Of course, if I had it all too do over again. I would change it, just have more fun, hugs and laughter.

I could have used the What Ifs & the Bastards post last weekend

I just read Financial Fitness' post Ignoring the What If's and the Bastards. Read it, if like me you have the negative thoughts creep in a bit too much. I can't help but think how much time and energy I waste with the both of them. And how Financial Fitness must be a great friend, in the friends eye.

Thank Financial Fitness!

Visitor Counts

I've seen a lot of other blogs talking about changes in the quantity of visitors and thanking other sites for referrals. I'm no where near this league online. I installed one of those Stat Counters, actually 2 times, and that is about all I know.

I know when doing various things online, like financial opportunities, a page rank is important. People, advertisers, want to know how many may view their page from the referral. Izea Ranks is now offering ranks for bloggers, in an effort to streamline the page ranking system. Making it fair, so to speak.

Some big boy, page ranking people, have taken it upon themselves to down rank certain folks, just willy-nilly. So, it is creating confusion on page ranks. For instance, when I try to get a solid page rank from the site, with multiple rankings - I fall from 0 all the way to 8. Something that just serves to confuse me more.

Hopefully, with a system working for bloggers only, we may get some true and accurate numbers. Time will tell though, it is only in its infancy. Of course, the more that join, the better the stats will be. This is a slow and tedious process, but a necessary one.

It is about time that these rates become a basic calculation, much like a credit score. There is no way you should see such a massive spread in numbers. These spreads could cause massive confusion and mislead the person looking for the truth. After all, these are numbers how can they vary to such a huge degree and still be called accurate.

I've recently been receiving an IZEA Ranking and I am thrilled to discover how this places me, compared to others. Although, I still don't know how to use it. :-)

My Memoir

I was tagged by the beautiful and tallented BeachGirl to play the Six Word Memoir meme. Being the good sport that I am and longing for a little play time, I've decided to take that dare, to be it.

Here are the rules...

  1. Write your own six word memoir.
  2. Post it on your blog and include a visual illustration if you want.
  3. Link to the person who tagged you in your post.
  4. Tag at least 5 more blogs.
  5. Leave a comment on the tagged blogs with an invitation to play.

My memoir is...

Laugh when you feel like crying!

What I have learned in my life so far, is that each one of us is in control of our destiny's and our happiness. Don't wait for the world to conform and create your happiness. We can all be happy today by forcing our selves, through laughter. Think it, do it and be it. All things are possible when you are happy with where you are and who you are.

In the hopes of creating future authors I will tag:

You can not succeed until you are comfortable with you.

I think we all have something about ourselves we don't like. Something we are highly critical of. Not that men aren't, but I think they are much more comfortable in their own skin then we are. Why?

To me, these critical issues feel like flaws, instead of the things that make me special. For instance, after losing all this weight and body fat, I have a ton of stretch marks. They are so disgusting to me. I've shared my thoughts with others and I've been told I need to change my thinking. Looking more at my scars as battle wounds and a sign of how far I have come.

It makes sense, but it is easier said then done. It is something that remains constant in my thoughts. Skin care sites are being flooded by my search to find a cure.

Today's search led me to a site called Skin Health Today. I think this site is a goldmine of information for all of us, so I thought I would share and suggest you bookmark the site, Subscribe to the email list (found in the blog) and then tune in live to the weekly radio show at www. WorldTalkRadio.com.

It is a bundle of information for the whole family. Not just on skin health health, but on total body wellness. A place where all of us can learn to love ourselves.

Hope you enjoy.

Looking for a career in California?

Not me. I'm sure I am either allergic to warm weather or earth quakes. Plus, I am no writer. I do this purely for me.

Although, I know some of you are excellent at what you do and I thought I would share an email I received. Because you never know..................

I'm looking for an editor/writer to lead the Mint.com Personal Finance blog. A job spec is attached. Given the content and reach of your own PF blog, I thought you might be aware of some "up and coming" bloggers in this space who would be interested in and qualified for this opportunity.

The role is full-time, based in Mountain View, CA, and pay in the mid to high "five figures". Successful candidate will have personal experience writing on personal finance topics and must submit samples to be considered. They’d do some writing themselves, as well as managing a handful of other writers (including Angie Szesciorka, who you’ve traded emails with) on specific PF topics. They’d drive the blog design and it’s SEO/Acquisition goals, as well.

Many thanks and best wishes for continued success,

Donna Wells

I was unable to open the attached file with specs, but I am positive she would send this information to you, should you have interest.

Happy going!

Starting @ $4.95 - Fastest Hosting Service

Let's see, issues, issues, issues with blogger. Isn't it always happening? I can't remember the last time I could use spell check. As you all know - I need it like oxygen. Why don't the folks in this particular hosting domain fix the issue. I guess their too busy slashing page ranks and acquiring new businesses.

If I had technical knowledge, I would jump ship and join a service with optimized web hosting. Speed is important. Have any doubts of that, go from a cable or high speed connection to dial up. I guarantee the experience will send chills up your spine.

It did with me when I had to utilize it at the laundry -ick!

How is it, that this newbie company Simplehelix.com can offer faster speeds with updated hardware, when the giant.....who shall remain nameless doesn't.

Who has the money? Maybe it is just me, but I would assume the bigger you are the better you are. Apparently that isn't the case at all. More like the bigger you are, the less you need to care about the little guy. Keep things...sort of running...and you can get away with anything.

You bet your sweet bottom if these things were happening with the little man - he'd be working day and night to correct the issues. After all, each and every customer is his livelihood.

PSST - no spell check yet - crazy service!

8 Extraordinary Recoveries: Making Money Mistakes and Living to Blog about It!

I'm so excited! Today I am posting my very first Guest Post. I may be doing this for selfish reasons. The post is introducing me to a couple new bloggers (5 actually - amazing how many there are) and I just love reading about other peoples journeys.

Heather Johnson is a freelance business, finance and credit writer, as well as a regular contributor for BusinessCreditCards.com site for comparing small business credit cards. She welcomes questions, comments, and freelancing job inquiries at her email address heatherjohnson2323@gmail.com

Anyone who has at least two nickels to rub together has concerns about their personal finances. And anyone who thinks about these issues at all cannot help but reflect upon errors in judgment that they have made regarding financial decisions. Whether the blunder was as big as putting all of your savings into the wrong tech stock or as small as forgetting to submit that five-dollar mail-in rebate, it is easy to dwell on these mistakes, admit defeat, and acknowledge fiscal failure.

But take heart, brave souls, for there are plenty of role models out there for those who have made poor choices with their money. All of the individuals below made some mistakes with money, but not one of them threw in the towel. Now while they haven’t all attained their ultimate financial goals, they have all changed the way that they think about money and are on their way to recovery. Read their stories, take their advice, and learn from their missteps—maybe you’ll be able to avoid making similar money mistakes.

  1. Wallowing in Debt: The woman behind this blog grew up in a financially irresponsible household and quickly built up her own debt, She and her husband were pushed out of the housing market and when they did find a home, she realized that they would be forced into taking a considerable loss. She has since found ways to make extra money and save funds where possible, getting herself on the road back to financial solvency.
  2. It’s Just Money: The blogger behind It’s Just Money made all sorts of financial missteps in the past and thoroughly demolished his credit score. He has learned his lesson, climbed his way out of debt, and managed the difficult task of rebuilding his credit. He is now on his way to buying his own home, a far cry from his original sad state.
  3. Ms. Mini Ducky: Ms. Mini Ducky does not come from the best financial background, but the devotion that she shows to her family is inspiring. Not only does she want to improve her own fiscal standing, but she is determined to help her parents recover from their checkered monetary past. She is living at home, helping her parents with the bills, and saving up to help her parents buy a new home. Eventually, she hopes to move into a new home of her own.
  4. See Me Get Rich: Zachary is a long time student (with the accompanying loans), has recently married, and has absorbed the expenses of moving more than once in the past few years. In addition to all of that, he lives in an area of California that is one of the most expensive locales in the United States. He was never a prudent spender and became frustrated when he had almost nothing to show for the solid income that he earns teaching at a local community college. This realization has made him rethink his attitude towards money and he is now saving and investing in his future.
  5. Your Money By Design: These days, Nancy Zimmerman runs seminars and provides her services as a personal financial consultant, but that was not always the case. As recently as fifteen years ago, she was mired in credit card debt and struggling to repay student loans. Small unexpected expenses and the annual Christmas rush consistently wiped out any savings that she managed to obtain. Instead of dealing with her troubling financial situation, she ignored it by taking tropical vacations, thus accumulating more debt. One day however, she woke up and decided to turn her finances around. She
learned all that she could about money, dramatically altered her spending habits, and was able to achieve her goal of purchasing a home in half the time that she had expected.
  6. Rich Minx: Rich Minx is a blogger who stresses fiscal responsibility. She has been working on her savings, accumulating sound investments, and closely tracking her spending habits. She has come a long way from the much poorer minx who used to happily spend her money as quickly as she earned it on frivolous expenses such as extravagant trips and various forms of entertainment.
  7. Every Second Paycheck: The blogger at Every Second Paycheck blamed his increasingly difficult financial situation on “mysterious forces” that depleted his funds. He was making a fair salary and was frustrated that it was going to waste. He has since made impressive progress towards his goal of paying for his expenses using only every other paycheck.
  8. Frank the Financially Savvy Atheist: Both Frank and his wife are the children of immigrants who struggled financially after coming to the United States and starting their families. The experience of seeing their parents work all of their lives with little reward inspired them to become financially independent and be able to afford early retirement. They are well on their way, living below their means, curtailing spending, and working on solid investments geared towards a comfortable retirement.

A couple things

Time is not my friend. With tomorrow being the filing date for 4th quarter payroll returns and some folks believing they can walk their documentation in at the last hour - I'm swamped. Although, I am happy to have work. Or should I say- work that pays?

I just want to send out good thoughts and prayers to my friend Cheryl, who's mom is not doing well and treatments are not available. If you pray - could you for Cheryl and her family? They have had a rough go and I do believe in the power of prayer.

Yesterday, I learned a friend is going into a short sale with their newer home. I believed that they were over their heads when they bought it. But recently, with a huge increase in income - well over DH and I combined, that they would be fine. Of course, all their vacations and shopping won and now the house is lost.

I'd love to feel sorry for these folks. But I don't. They made their bed and now should lie in it or get up and make it. I've been there when expenses were above income - but I didn't just say "oh, well". I got up, went to work, found more work, and whittled the issues away. I was elated to find my DH who would also jump in and do what it takes to make it. We have come along way.

AND I BELIEVE ANYONE CAN IN OUR COUNTRY - WITH HARD WORK AND DETERMINATION.

You may not like the work. I didn't particularly like being gone 14 hours a day, when my kids were small. Nor did I like asking for work from everyone I met. Sometimes felt I was begging. Thankfully, I fell into some really great places that let me work hard and they paid. MINIMUM WAGE, but it got the job done.

One last thing that happened yesterday. I generally prepare a long time friends tax return. I have received a couple calls already this year, with info questions - no big deal. Then yesterday, they call and tell me they are trying to prepare their own taxes online. They wanted me to help them over the phone - apparently for free. To show how unprepared they were for the task - the question they asked was

"It wants to know if we had itemized expenses last year. What are those?"

Yes, I was .......bothered by this call. I found it in poor taste. I gave a couple clues and then politely told them I was working and needed to go. They asked me to call back - later. NO, I didn't and I wouldn't.

I would NEVER ask anyone to do their job for me, for free. As I felt this call was. In fact, when I ask a friend, say my electrician friend, to help with an issue - I expect a bill - period. I also request a bill, if one is not readily provided. Then in the worse case -if you want to call it that - that they don't give a bill, I then either send a gift card with cash or schedule for a "friend out" time - our treat.

Is this something, an etiquette only known by the self-employed?

With friends like this.......... By the way, these long time "friends" are only on the phone to me during tax season or major problem time. Which I'm okay with, our husbands wouldn't mix well and we are in different circles.

98¢ CFL's

Tight Fisted Miser had a post today, worth re mentioning. The Miser found that Lowe's has CFL's for 98¢ each.
Bright Effects13-Watt Mini Compact Fluorescent Bulb.
If you need them, now is the time to stock up. These puppies are not cheap.
I am heading to Lowes this weekend. I have a $10 off of a $25 purchase. I would need to buy 26 of these to cover that, and that may be a bit much. So, I will see if our construction business has a need or we need something else to absorb some of the money. Either way, I'm buying bulbs.
Maybe this could be an income stream - buying the low cost bulbs for others and having them pay me the $1.04 they cost after tax. Selling 17 would make my 9 ones free. SWEET.
So.......who needs bulbs. JK.

Ouch! That Hurt!

It's a good thing Melissa is so sweet, I would think she meant to smack me that hard when she tagged me otherwise. :-) JK. Guess she gets that roughness from the zillion nieces and nephews she has - Tells you what her family does for entertainment - not exactly frugal. ;-) JK again.

To Please the Sponsors - The Rules:

  1. Link to the person’s blog who tagged you.
  2. Post these rules on your blog.
  3. List seven random and/or weird facts about yourself.
  4. Tag seven random people at the end of your post and include links to their blogs.
  5. Let each person know that they have been tagged by posting on comment on their blog.

It would be so much easier to list 7 things that WEREN'T weird about me.

  1. I can not function without coffee. I would be in prison if the world suddenly stopped supplying me with coffee.
  2. I am nice as pie to anyone who hurts my feelings or takes advantage of me. Of course, I don't mean it. I will then harbor the resentment and am unable to set it free. Causing a great deal of issues for me. I also do not tell anyone what I am dealing with. I think my blog readers know more about my struggles then the folks in my life. All in the effort of not stepping on others toes.
  3. I can not clean my house, unless I do it in a circle from top to bottom. Oh sure, I can pick things up and do a wipe down, but my house does not get a detailed clean unless I can do it my way - with no one home. Drives me crazy if someone comes home and tracks over a cleaned area from a dirty area - I work my way out.
  4. I get upset when things aren't put where they belong. Say, someone besides me loads the dishwasher and they put glasses on the bottom rack and a pan on the top rack. I feel this is just ignorant. I will take it all out and re-load - my way. Which of course has to be the right way.
  5. I check all my balances daily. I know how much cash is in my wallet, change jar, and bank accounts - every day. Not just what cleared, but what is actual. I know exactly how much I owe on every credit card, loan, and mortgage I have - every day. My banker, while in meetings will refer to me, for accurate numbers instead of waiting for his assistant to pull them up. Says I am his most detailed (with numbers) customer.
  6. I am an introvert with my DH, but an extrovert without him. Drives my friends nuts. They expect me always to be me, which tends to be a bit over the top when having fun with my friends. But when we all (meaning with the men) go out, I become a quieter version of myself. DH hates attention. And early on has "shushed" me, and I adapted. I don't like it, but I do Love Him.
  7. I feel like I know you guys. I feel this makes me weird, because do we really know each other? Maybe we know a bit more about each other, then those closest to us. Of course, on paper/type, you don't see the real person. Yet, you just feel so familiar to me. I really feel like we would be the best of friends in person. Well, if I wasn't so weird. :-)

Tagging my buddies, with a gentle touch ....... unlike that Common Sense girl. JK again - yep I got issues.

  1. Cheryl she really needs to be tagged. She walks Snoopy, but does she ever take time for herself?
  2. CC is another one, who needs a break from work and family to play.
  3. LeighAnn - does that girl have a life? Always taking care of others and working. Come on LeighAnn, time to play tag.
  4. MoneyDummy - just headed back to school and should be reminded about the old recess thing.
  5. BeachGirl - she needs to reveal something crazy - she is way to perfect.
  6. Prince - time to stop being so serious - have fun.
  7. DebtHater - she is moving ahead fabulously - time to play.

Changes in 2008 on Page Rank

Back in 2007, as if it was a century ago, folks were all over the bloggosphere complaining about the Google Page Ranking System. Like a thief in the night the system was zapping away the page ranks.

Maybe it is my ignorance to such things, but it didn't bother me too much. Heck, even the loss of extra income, from the decreased page wasn't terrible for me. Possibly, because time restraints were playing a larger part in my lack of earning time.

Such is Life.

One of my sites, was totally sunk.....ehhmmm...this one to a Page Rank of zero on that fateful day. The other, for reasons I may never know, held fast and is still at the same rank today.

Surprise

Last night while I was being lazy and reading all the other blogs out there, I clicked on mine. I so rarely click the page on and view it for myself. Possibly another reason I wasn't haunted by the page rank demise. :-)

I was surprised to see 1/2 of my Page Rank had returned.

Is it good? I think so. Just looking at scales it is better to be anything over zero and on your way to ten. Right? Will I notice changes from this? I don't know, since I was not as affected by the demise of the score as others.

I also suspect my time to remain limited for at least another 60 days. So, time will tell.

Hope if your PR was sunk, you see positive changes.

Oh Crap, It Hurts!

Last week I saw a posting of MapGirl's regarding Making A List.

What I took away from that read, was to keep goals in your sights to stop any unnecessary spending and remain on path of strong debt elimination or huge savings increases.

The very first item was to change your cellphone banner to show your savings goal. I being - evidently crazy, decided to make my banner read the amount of our total personal debt owed.

To tell you the truth, I was pumped by this. I get a zillion (slight exaggeration) calls a day. I'm consistently opening my phone. This method would surely make me think twice about buying that next iced coffee or that new Liz & Co purse - right?

Well, dang it.....I've decided to never look at my phone again. That number is haunting me. It is basically ruining my life. Over and over again, it flashes through my day. Like a huge neon sign saying "you idiot, how could you owe almost $450k personally?"

As you can see, I am including all personal debt - mortgages are debt too.

My hubby has suggested I leave that number to year end. I want need to see it go down. I haven't checked to see if I have enough room to add amount paid down yet. Duh, because I'm afraid to look at my phone.

I need to stop reading blogs and if I do read take in the info, without taking the suggestion.

Hope my car doesn't break down in the country. I'd have to walk to a farm.

Oh No

I changed my page address. Purchased my own page. Hope folks can find me. Let me know if you find me. :-)

No comments, means I am lost forever. :-(

Word is, you will be redirected. In 3 days, could that be correct?
